W&M resolution: Merit/values support for students/faculty, freedom

William & Mary’s Board of Visitors adopted a resolution Friday affirming “values-based and merit-based” support for students and faculty. The resolution, approved 14 to 2, states university programs comply with federal civil rights laws including the Equal Protection Clause and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The measure follows nationwide debate on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs in education and upholds the principle of academic freedom.
