New Kent’s Viola Brooks Cowles, 82, church & community leader, died April 19

Viola Brooks Cowles, 82, of New Kent County, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, church member, community leader, and former school system employee, died April 19, 2025, following a long illness. She was involved with multiple church ministries, worked with children in the school system and Head Start program, and was active in community organizations including the James City County Neighborhood Connection, Chickahominy Community Involvement Organization, Bush Springs Road Community Organization, and Church Women United.
