    York County Friday recycling pickup moves to Saturday, while garbage is on its normal schedule.
    City of Williamsburg offices and Quarterpath Recreation Center are closed.
    Waller Mill Park in Williamsburg is open normal hours.
    Williamsburg garbage collection for Monday/Tuesday routes is on schedule (no recycling scheduled).
    Water emergencies in Williamsburg have a separate contact number.
    Bill payments in Williamsburg can be made via dropbox or online, but payments on July 4th will post July 7th.

  • VA Home Prices Up 3.5% as Sales Dip 0.6% in May 2025 Report

    VIRGINIA HOME PRICES CLIMB AMID SLOWING SALES

    Virginia home sales activity remained subdued in May 2025.
    Sales declined for the fourth month in a row, down 0.6% year-over-year.
    Despite fewer sales, home prices continued to rise in most markets.
    The median home price increased 3.5% to $440,000.
    Increased inventory saw active listings jump over 30%.
    Homes are taking slightly longer to sell, but still move quickly historically.
    Affordability concerns and mortgage rates are keeping some buyers on the sidelines.

  • Kroger expands, AutoZone hub store set for vacant Tabb Kmart

    Kroger is expanding into one-third of the vacant Kmart building in Village Square at Kiln Creek in Tabb.
    The expansion will relocate and enlarge Kroger departments including deli, bakery, and pickup, add more self-checkout, apparel, and a drive-up pharmacy.
    Kroger’s renovation is expected to take 52 weeks.
    AutoZone will open a large hub store and warehouse distribution point in the remainder of the Kmart building.
    The AutoZone store is in permitting and expects renovations to take two to four months after approval, creating about 15 jobs.
    The former Kmart building in the Tabb area of York County has been vacant since late 2019.

  • James City, York Counties Mull Data Center Rules on Power, Noise

    James City and York counties are considering policies for data centers. Concerns include size, utility usage, noise, and impact on residents. York County supervisors approved data center policies on June 17 to address these concerns. Chesapeake leaders rejected a data center rezoning request on the same day. James City County planning commission will discuss regulations July 2. James City County supervisors will hear recommendations in September. Research was prompted by issues in other areas like Northern Virginia. Residents in Charles City County raised concerns about noise and light from a proposed data center. Charles City County supervisors deferred a decision on that project June 24.

    The MacArthur Memorial in Norfolk offers a free Military Family Appreciation Day on July 4 with a film, snacks, crafts, and a scavenger hunt; registration is required.
    Suffolk’s Stars and Stripes Spectacular is July 4 from 6-9 p.m. at Constant’s Wharf Park & Marina with music, children’s activities, and fireworks.

    Colonial Williamsburg features fireworks at 9:30 p.m. over the Governor’s Palace.

    Pre-fireworks events at Colonial Williamsburg include a Declaration reading and music.

    Busch Gardens Williamsburg will have fireworks July 3-5 for Military Appreciation Week.

    Yorktown hosts its 46th annual Fourth of July celebration starting at 8 a.m.

    Yorktown’s daytime events include a parade, family activities, music, and contests.

    Yorktown fireworks are scheduled for 9:15 p.m. over the York River.

    The American Revolution Museum at Yorktown offers special programs and demonstrations.
