KINGSMILL PLANTATION ADDED TO ENDANGERED HISTORIC PLACES LIST
Kingsmill Archeological Site was added to Preservation Virginia’s Most Endangered Historic Places list.
A public event discussed community efforts to help preserve the site.
The site is threatened by a conceptual plan from the property owner, Escalante Golf, to build 32 new homes.
The proposed homes would be built adjacent to the historic site on land currently used as a soccer park.
Residents are concerned about the negative impact on the 300-year-old Kingsmill Plantation remnants.
The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register.
Preservation Virginia pledges support to the effort to save the historic landmark.
Negotiations are ongoing with the property owner to find preservation solutions.
The newly-founded Kingsmill Heritage Society is also working to preserve the site.
