New Kent weekend celebrates 250th anniv of Patrick Henry’s 1775 march

New Kent is celebrating the 250th anniversary of Patrick Henry’s 1775 march this weekend. The event commemorates Henry leading a militia through New Kent toward Williamsburg after Governor Dunmore seized gunpowder. Activities include historical presentations, military encampments, drills by a regiment, and a portrayal of Patrick Henry. Events take place at the New Kent Ordinary, the courthouse, and Henry’s Scotchtown home. The New Kent Historical Society and Historic Commission organized the free public celebration.
