York County Board of Supervisors recently approved ordinance changes allowing residents to keep backyard ducks in many neighborhoods. The rules for ducks now match chickens, limiting flocks to one bird per 2,500 square feet up to 16 total chickens and ducks on single-family lots. Poultry keeping is also now permitted in the Planned Development zoning district. Additionally, seeking exceptions for chicken coop setbacks less than 10 feet requires a variance from the Board of Zoning Appeals instead of a special use permit. Supervisors approved the changes on April 15.
